St mary of the assumption roman catholic church
148 NY-49, cleveland, NY 13042
General Bio
Historic pipe organ built by John G. Marklove, Utica, New York, Circa 1872, and located in the former St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Cleveland, New York. The pipe organ supposedly “rebuilt” by C.E. Morey in 1930— perhaps the instrument was installed at St Mary’s at that time, with an alteration in the winding system (there is no sign of the hand pumping mechanism that would have been original to the organ). Cone-tuned pipes had been fitted with tuning sleeves. Otherwise, the organ is in its original condition.
The instrument is a two-manual (58 note compass) and pedal (27 note compass) mechanical action instrument, situated in a simple but attractive chestnut case. The instrument was completely restored, in a historic manner, according to the guidelines established by the Organ Historical Society, in 1992. This included a releathering of the double-rise reservoir bellows, replacement of leather linkages, and other deteriorated parts , repairs and adjustments to the mechanical action.
